The coloration and texture of Stenophylla cornigera help keep the mantis hidden. Swaying beneath a branch, seemingly stumbling, adds to the insect's imitation of a twig, while letting it move about. Stenophylla has such good camo, scientists can’t say its population size. For the researchers, seeing the magnificent mantis was rare and exciting. Expedition leader Leonardo Lanna notes this little dragon is "legendary."
